The Next Martha Stewart

My co-worker is one amazing dad. He decided to build doll beds for his daughter's American Girls dolls. I must have had a weak moment, because I quickly volunteered to sew the bedding for all three beds. After spending countless hours re-learning to sew, I was questioning why I said yes so quickly! But, in the end, I think the beds turned out great!

Since I hadn't sewn since highschool (8 years?), the first bedding set probably didn't turn out the best. But, what 7 year old girl cares about straight lines? I was given the pre-cut foam, but I had to make my own patterns for all of the parts. (Actually, I had been calling them templates, but another co-worker was kind enough to correct me. They're patterns, not templates. who cares! ha!).

The patterns were easy to make. But, sewing a zipper wasn't easy at all. I went through a few glasses of wine trying to get them right. Looking back, maybe that's why my lines weren't straight. Oops! The zippers were used on the fitted sheet set, in case they ever needed to be washed. You never know when an American Girls doll might have a little accident :)

The blankets were a challenge as well. I had never used blanket binding before, but after watching a few online tutorials, I felt comfortable enough to give it a shot. Again, my lines weren't very straight, but at this point, who cares!

The easiest part was making the pillows. I had made enough pillows in my high school sewing class to get me by. I even had the help of my sister Maddie with the stuffing. I better give her a little credit, since she helped me so willingly. (or not...).

But here's the final bed set up. Next time I decide to take on such a large project, I'll make sure to take photos of the process.
