Fall Wrap Up

First off; I apologize for not completely my posts about my trip to France. Life got crazy and before I knew it, I lost all motivation to write each post. Laziness factor! :)
This fall has gone by so quickly. After the Paris trip, I worked 2 or 3 weekends in a row. I think it was pay back for the 11 days off. I didn't appreciate that one bit! Kenzie did come over to Ames to stay with me for a weekend. The highlight was going to the ISU vs Texas Tech game. It happened to be the first super cold day in quite some time. We had blankets, hats & gloves on by the end of the game. Actually, we left at the start of the 4th qtr. Kenzie & I aren't very dedicated ISU fans... GO HAWKS!
Lori (Hinners) Nelson and I hosted a couple's baby shower for Gina & Andrew Lehman. We chose to have the party during the Iowa vs Michigan football game. There were some fun games involved beforehand; including a beer drinking contest using baby bottles. Andrew cheated to win, but since he's the guest of honor we allowed it. Not so sure the boys enjoyed the baby food game. But the concensus was that the apples weren't too bad. You can see below that I made another diaper cake; this one being yellow/hawks themed. The Lehman's do not know what sex the baby is going to be. The baby is due to arrive any day now. I can't wait to see the little one!

There were weekly trips to watch Maddie and all the girls at Ames High win every swim meet. Ames High was undefeated this season and won the State title last weekend. Maddie swims multiple relay events and some individuals, but mainly all 50 freestyles. In years past, she made it to state as an alternate but never got to swim. This year, she made it on the 200 freestyle relay. They ended up placing 9th, but had their fastest time yet. The pictures of Maddie (here) are from Districts in Fort Dodge. Maddie swam her fastest 50's ever. We were so proud!! This was Maddie's last year for swim. Next up; dance team.

Halloween was pretty low-key this year. I celebrated with TDub (Terry Wurzer), Greg, Lacey, and Todd. No one dressed up but myself. I was a bunny! ha! I dressed up as bunny to hand out candy to little trick or treaters. Most kids liked me & my candy. Only a few complained about my hawkeye pumpkins on the front steps. Those darn cyclone fans!

TDub had to try the ears on! He looks better than me!

For the last couple of months, I've had to keep a secret that was hard to keep. My friend from France (Cedric) was going to be flying back to the states for a visit. Only a few of us knew the secret which made it pretty fun. I put together a "reunion" weekend to get everyone back to Ames. I knew Ced would be flying back the weekend of the ISU vs Nebraska game; so we set up a large tailgate. But, knowing that Cedric was arriving Friday night, I had set up a reservation at Legends. There ended up being around 22 people at dinner. Even though Legends failed miserably with my reservation, everyone was shocked to see Cedric walk into the restaurant. We had dinner then headed out to Welch for some more drinks. The overall evening was pretty calm compared to the college days. Must be a sign of old age! After all the fun Friday night, we had a big tailgate to set up for the game. Brad Hempstead and I had been talking back and forth all week making sure all was set. We had WAY too much food and beverages. Brad had a big steel pot to make chili. It was delicious and perfect for the chilly/windy day. After a long day of tailgating, a lot of us came back to my place. Naps were had. And then we never made it back out Saturday night. Again, must be the old age!

Now that fall is slipping away, I can feel winter right around the corner. I'm sure this winter will be just as busy & eventful as my life seems to always be. Maybe from now on, I'll be better at keeping everyone updated!
